Alpha Nu Omega History

The Early Days
Iota Phi Theta's presence in the Houston metropolitan area existed since 1971 with the introduction of Iota to the campus of Prairie View Agricultural & Mechanical University.
South Texas Expansion
However, it wasn’t until the summer of 1998 that brothers Chris O’Banner, William Wyatt, and Geoff Boykin decided that it was time to add to Iota’s thriving presence in South Texas.
After bringing the brotherhood to Texas Southern University (Epsilon Alpha) and the University of Houston (Zeta Eta), campuses located in the Houston area, the trio sat down in the summer of 1998 to form the alumni colony that gave birth to the Alpha Nu Omega alumni chapter of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity Inc.

Southern Region Comunity
Originally apart of Gulf Coast Region, the Southern Region was created in 2001 with the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas.
The decision to split the two regions was made because of the phenomenal potential for growth happening in the four states. Chris O'Banner was appointed as the first Regional Polaris for the Southern Region.
Since its creation, the Southern Region has been active in expanding lota Phi Theta® throughout the region. This has included charting new chapters and reactivating old ones. For its efforts, the region was awarded the Region of the Year Award at the 29th International Conclave.
With a leadership team of brothers committed to serving lota, the region is poised for even more growth in the coming months and years.
lota Phi Theta® is an undeniable force that continues to expand with the addition of each new brother.
The Southern Region lives the motto of the fraternity:
"Building a Tradition, Not Resting Upon One."
